No meeting between Jaswant and Aziz in New York

E-Mail this report to a friend

There will be no bilateral meeting between External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh and Pakistan Foreign Minister Sartaj Aziz on the sidelines of the UN general assembly session in New York.

''Nothing has been fixed in terms of a bilateral meeting between Mr Jaswant Singh and Mr aziz,'' an external affairs ministry spokesman said in New Delhi today.

He said no formal request had been made by the Pakistan Government for the meeting.

Before his departure for New York yesterday, Singh had said that no meeting with Aziz had been lined up.

The spokesman confirmed of Jaswant Singh's participation in the Saarc foreign ministers meeting in New York to be held on September 28.

This may provide an occasion for the two ministers to meet.

Jswant Singh is also meeting US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook and several other dignitaries during his stay in New York.
