Two Border Security Force officials and as many foreign militants were killed in the Kashmir valley in the past 24 hours.

Director General of Police Gurbachan Jagat told a news conference that the Special Operation Group of the state police and the Border Security Force launched a joint operation at Machoo last night after receiving information that some militants were hiding there.

When the house-to-house searches began this morning, militants fired upon the forces with automatic weapons. The security forces retaliated and in the ensuing gun-battle two foreign militants were killed. One BSF inspector also lost his life in the encounter.

At Shoura, militants attacked a BSF camp near Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences last evening. They used rifle grenades and later fired with automatic weapons.

A BSF havaldar was killed and two jawans were injured in the attack.

This was the second major attack by militants in the Srinagar city in the past two days. Three government employees were killed and ten others were injured when militants fired rifle grenades at heavily guarded multi-storeyed secretariat building on Thursday.
