E-Mail this report to a friend

All India Congress Committee secretary Mani Shankar Aiyar and Tamil Nadu state unit chief Thindivanam K Ramamurthy today called on Tamil Maanila Congress president G K Moopanar at his Warren Road residence in Madras.

Political observers attached much importance to the visit and said Aiyar carried a message from AICC chief Sonia Gandhi.

Sonia Gandhi had been in touch with the TMC leader over the phone.

Moopanar, who is convalescing after an angioplasty, presented Aiyar with a shawl and congratulated him on his election to the Lok Sabha from Mayiladuthurai.

What transpired at the meeting was not immediately known.

Emerging from the meeting, Aiyar told reporters that it was just a courtesy call.

Ramamurthy, who had a one-to-one meeting with Moopanar, said he was happy about the outcome of the talks, but declined to divulge any details.
