E-Mail this report to a friend

Four Pakistani soldiers were killed when Indian troops foiled their attempt to capture two posts in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir yesterday.

A defence ministry spokesman said some Pakistani soldiers were seen marching towards two Indian posts in the Uri sector in north Kashmir early yesterday. The Indian soldiers deployed there immediately opened fire to foil their designs. The Pakistani soldiers used heavy artillery and small arms fire, targeting security force installations in the area.

In the shootout, four Pakistani soldiers were killed while fleeing into their own territory.

According to radio intercepts, three of the dead soldiers have been identified as Nazir, Kala Chain and Majid, the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, a report from Baramulla said one person was killed and three others injured in Pakistani shelling in the Hatlangoo area of the same sector. Some houses were also damaged.
