Three injured, house damaged in Pak shelling

E-Mail this report to a friend

At least three persons were injured and a house damaged due to heavy artillery and mortar shelling by Pakistani troops in the Uri sector this afternoon.

Official sources said that Pakistani troops began unprovoked shelling from across the border targeting civilian and security force installations in the Uri sector of North Kashmir.

Sources said a shell landed on the house of one Akbar-ud-Din causing extensive damage to it at Hatlangoo. Three persons were also injured in shelling in the same area.

Indian troops retaliated and the exchange continued for about an hour. However, damages on the Pakistani side were not immediately known.

Meanwhile, troops launched a massive search operation in about a 40 kilometre-forest area of Goshu in the frontier district of Kupwara since early this morning.

Sources said the forest area was cordoned off and the search operation launched to nab militants and smash their hideouts.

A similar fortnight-long search operation was completed by troops in the forest area of Rajwara in Baramulla district recently. During the operation, about half a dozen underground hideouts were unearthed and a large cache of arms and ammunition, including missiles, rockets, explosive devices and assault rifles were recovered. More than 15 militants, mostly foreigners, were killed.
