3 BSF men killed in J&K mine blast

Three Border Security Force personnel including an assistant commandant were killed in a landmine blast at Mohripora in south Kashmir.

Police sources told rediff.com in Srinagar that a BSF vehicle hit a landmine at village Mohripora late last night killing three men including assistant commandant Ravinder Singh of 41 BN BSF on the spot.

The other two who died in the blast have been identified as jawans Farooq Ahmad and Babu Lal.

Sources said that four others, identified as constables Rameshwar Singh, Tiwari, Ganesh Dutt and Anand Kumar were critically injured in the blast. They have been shifted to the Srinagar army hospital.

Senior police and security force officers visited the spot this morning. The area was extensively combed.

Meanwhile, in the past 24 hours, 15 militants were killed in combing operations in Jammu and Kashmir by the army.

The operations have been undertaken following the deployment of two new army brigades in northen Kupwara district, where militants had attacked several army camps. Searches are also being conducted in Srinagar and its suburbs.
