Brajesh Mishra leaves for Washington

E-Mail this report to a friend

Brajesh Mishra, national security advisor and principal secretary to the prime minister, today left for Washington to hold wide-ranging discussions with US officials on bilateral issues, the developments in Pakistan and the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty.

His trip follows the recent visit to India by two senior US officials, Bruce Reidel and M Daley, who met External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh and the foreign secretary and held extensive talks on bilateral relations and US President Bill Clinton's proposed visit to India.

Meanwhile, a ministry of external affairs spokesperson said India's position on a dialogue with Pakistan remained unchanged. Responding to Pakistan Chief Executive General Pervez Musharraf's offer of talks on Kashmir, the spokesperson said a composite dialogue mechanism already existed, under which all issues, including Kashmir, could be discussed.
