2 soldiers, 1 militant killed in Kashmir

Security forces killed a militant and unearthed an underground hideout, but lost two personnel in the Kashmir valley during overnight operations.

Militants detonated a powerful improvised explosive device at Habak on the Srinagar-Kargil highway Wednesday morning. However, no one was injured, an official spokesman said.

He said during a search operation, forces unearthed a well-built hideout in the Kamil forests, in Chowkibal area of north Kashmir, Tuesday evening. One hundred and eighty-five grenades, 90 detonators, 25 anti-tank grenades, 31 tube grenade launchers, six improvised explosive devices, eight rucksacks, two AK rifles, six magazines, 2960 rounds of ammunition, two rocket launchers with 10 rockets, one disposable rocket launcher and 10 boosters were recovered from there.

The spokesman said forces and the Special Operation Group of the Jammu and Kashmir police killed a militant during an operation in the Dooras Wani forests Wednesday evening. Four AK rifles, 25 magazines, four grenades and five boosters were recovered from the slain militant.

In north Kashmir, militants attacked an army camp at Handwara Tuesday evening killing two personnel.
