Law Commission prepares bill for forfeiture of corrupt officials' propertyThe Law Commission of India has prepared a bill to ensure forfeiture of ill-gotten property by corrupt public servants. A law providing for forfeiture of properties "is a crying necessity" as corruption in public life has struck deep roots in the administrative apparatus, the 166th Report of the 15th Law Commission says. The proposed legislation is titled 'The Corrupt Public Servants (Forfeiture of Property) Bill'. The recommendations of the commission follow the Supreme Court judgment in the Delhi Development Authority versus Skipper Construction Company case. The apex court had stressed the need for a law to ensure forfeiture of properties acquired by officials through corrupt means. UNI |
