High alert sounded along LoC to stop JKLF move

Mehboob Khan in Jammu

A state of high alert has been sounded along the Line of Control, particularly in the Poonch sector. Security forces are ready to foil any attempt by the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front to cross over into Indian territory from Pakistan occupied Kashmir.

JKLF chief Amanullah Khan had given a call for crossing the LoC on Monday, October 4.

According to official sources, the Pakistan government should take steps to stop the JKLF activists from crossing over to Indian territory, but keeping in view the sensitivity of the situation, the vigil on the Indian side of the LoC has been increased to face any eventuality.

Though Khan has announced plans to cross the LoC from Madarpur in PoK, sources said the JKLF may try the route through Chatra, Poles and Truti villages, which fall in the radius of two to four km from the LoC.

Sources disclosed that the JKLF is mobilising its activists in several areas of PoK like Bandiabbaspur, Hajira, Muzaffarabad and Ravalkot, but it has not been getting any support in Jammu and Kashmir for its call.

This is not the first time that the JKLF has issued such a call. Earlier, it had attempted to do so, but was not allowed by the Pakistan government to do so. Observers says the JKLF is fighting presently more to revive its image than for the cause of Kashmir.

Political analysts are of the opinion that the JKLF, who started the liberation movement in Kashmir, later lost its significance in the state. Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence directorate then took over the task of the so-called jihad in J&K.

Although defence sources are of the opinion that Pakistan will not allow the JKLF to cross the LoC, Indian troops are nevertheless maintaining a vigil along the border.
