Army chief happy with operations in Kashmir

Chief of army staff General V P Malik has complimented the 15 Corps for its successful counter-insurgency operations in Kashmir, which, between August and November, saw the killing of 474 militants and recovery of 660 weapons.

General Malik was on a two-day visit to the headquarters of 15 and 14 Corps in the Kashmir and Ladakh regions.

In the last fortnight alone, 43 militants were killed and 57 weapons recovered in the valley.

The army chief felicitated the troops for maintaining effective vigil on the Line of Control and other sensitive areas. He visited the Dras and Kargil areas to review the army's winter defensive posture, and interacted with civil administration officials, ex-servicemen and the local population.

Lieutenant General H M Khanna, GoC-in-C Northern Command, and Lt Gen Krishan Pal, GoC, 15 Corps accompanied the army chief.

Earlier, the chief had visited Kupwara, Baramulla and Sharifabad. Gen Malik returned to the capital Tuesday evening.
