Antony Committee finalises report on Congress debacle

E-Mail this report to a friend

The A K Antony Committee, appointed by Congress president Sonia Gandhi for finding out the reasons for the party's debacle in the last Lok Sabha elections, completed its report early today. The final meeting of the committee started at 2200 hours last night and concluded at 0300 hours today. The report comprises about 200 pages.

Several reasons have been given by the committee for the party's setback and these reasons vary from state to state. When contacted Antony declined to disclose the contents of the report except saying that the report would be submitted to Sonia Gandhi this evening. The committee visited nine states and took evidence from hundreds of party workers and leaders including some Congress Working Committee members during the last 40 days.

The committee had about half-a-dozen sittings in Delhi. Major organisational changes are on the cards in the light of the Antony Committee report. Some changes were planned immediately after the elections but were deferred till the receipt of the report, which is meant to prompt a thorough introspection. The changes are expected any day, sources said.
