Centre to take up infiltration issue with BangladeshThe Centre has agreed to take up with the Bangladesh government the problem of infiltration of extremist groups from across the border to foment trouble in India. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, who took up the issue with Home Minister L K Advani during an hour-long meeting today, apprised him in detail the operation of certain extremist groups from Bangladeshi soil. Sarkar later told media persons that he urged Advani that the Centre should immediately take up the issue with Bangladesh since the groups having their hideouts in that country were being backed by Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence. He said the long and porous borders gave an easy passage to the militants. The chief minister said he had requested Advani to immediately provide additional contingents of the army, central paramilitary forces and the Assam Rifles to tackle the growing insurgency. He said Advani also accepted his invitation to visit the state which he described as 'long overdue.' Sarkar expressed satisfaction over his meeting with the home minister. UNI
