Bomb recovered from Lal Chowk in SrinagarJammu and Kashmir police averted a major tragedy when they recovered a powerful improvised explosive device from the historic Lal Chowk in Srinagar this morning, while elsewhere in the valley two militants were among three people killed since last evening. Official sources told UNI that the IED was planted at Lal Chowk near busy Gantaghar this morning. However, police recovered the bag in which the device was placed and took it to police control room at Batmaloo where the bomb was defused. Yesterday, four persons, including two policemen, were injured and half-a-dozen vehicles damaged when bomb placed in a scooter exploded just outside the ruling National Conference Headquarter at zero bridge. A BSF spokesman said that security forces killed two militants during a search operation at Tral in Pulwama district of south Kashmir last night. Some arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain ultras. One activist of the Muslim Mujahideen, a pro-government organisation, was killed when terrorists fired upon his vehicle at Watapora in Anantnag district last evening. Panic gripped Dalgate, on the banks of the famous Dal Lake, when extremists hurled a grenade on a BSF vehicle last night. Two BSF personnel and a pedestrian were injured in the attack. UNI
