Editor escapes attempt on life in KashmirGhulamjeelani Qadri, editor of Afaaq, a leading daily in Kashmir, had a narrow escape when a bomb hurled at his residence in Srinagar's Balgarden area exploded in the kitchen early this morning. Qadri told UNI that an explosive device, thrown from outside, exploded in his kitchen around 0500 hours causing extensive damage. However, he and his family members sleeping on the first floor escaped unhurt. This is the third attack on a newsperson in the Kashmir valley in past two months. A girl was injured when unidentified militants hurled a hand grenade at the office of Urdu daily Uqab at Abiguzar near Srinagar last month. Editor of another Urdu daily Srinagar Times had a narrow escape when a grenade lobbed by unidentified militants exploded near his car at Buchwara Dalgate on September 29. UNI
