Bihar minister dismissed for lying about age

E-Mail this report to a friend

Bihar Governor Suraj Bhan today dismissed Horticulture and Weights and Measurements Minister Samrat Chaudhary from the Rabri Devi cabinet for being ''underaged.''

The governor made the announcement in Patna today. He told newspersons that the decision to sack the minister was taken because of ''a fake birth certificate produced by him.''

In a letter to the chief minister and chief secretary, the governor directed them to lodge cases of forgery, false declaration, fraud and misrepresentation against Chaudhary.

The governor also directed the state government to recover the entire salary and allowances received by the minister during his tenure and asked the chief minister to go into the actions taken by him as a minister and judge their validity. He said if necessary a notification could be issued in this connection.

Chaudhary would anyway have ceased to be a minister on November 19 after the completion of his six-month tenure since he is not a member of either the state assembly or the legislative council.

Bhan said there was ample proof to prosecute Chaudhary for giving fake birth certificates to hold a constitutional post.
