Security forces raided an extremist hideout at Lar Ganderbal on the outskirts of Srinagar last evening and recovered 200 kg of explosives. No arrests were made, however.

A Border Security Force spokesman said troops killed three extremists belonging to the Al-Badr outfit during a clash in the border area of Nowgam in Baramulla district last evening.

He said four Kalashnikov rifles, one grenade launcher with eight grenades, five improvised explosive devices, one wireless set and some rounds of ammunition were recovered from the slain extremists.

An official spokesman said militants hurled a hand grenade and resorted to firing on security forces at Maharajpora Batmaloo in Srinagar city last evening. Security forces returned the fire, killing one militant. But residents who took to the streets alleged that the dead man was arrested and killed in custody.

Militants also attacked security forces with grenades and automatic weapons at Suthrashahi and Batmaloo last night. No one was hurt in these attacks.

An official spokesman said security forces killed two militants at Chandigam in Kupwara district. One Kalashnikov rifle, one rocket launcher, 25 kilos of explosives, six grenades and 95 kilos of rations were recovered from the site of the encounter.

He said security forces also gunned down two militants at Chuntimarg while another was killed at Khag in the central Kashmir district of Badgam in two different operations last evening.

The spokesman said the forces also killed a terrorist at Village Bankote while two others were gunned down at Village Rangawan Dhok by the Special Operations Group of the Jammu & Kashmir police last evening.

One Kalashnikov rifle, one self-loading rifle, 30 kilos of explosives, two grenades, one remote-control device and 25 detonators were recovered from the militants.

He said an encounter took place between militants and security forces at Village Chila-Danga last evening in which one militant was killed. One assault rifle, three magazines, two grenades and one bayonet were recovered from the site of the encounter.

The spokesman said militants shot at and critically wounded one Shamim Ahmad Sofi at Arwani in Pulwama. The injured man later died in hospital.

Three militants were killed in an encounter with security forces during a search operation at Village Shoshear-Nard in north Kashmir last evening. The operation was still on when reports last came in, he said.

The spokesman said militants shot at and wounded one Ghulam Hassan Baig at Larnoo Kokernag in south Kashmir late last night. He was hospitalised in a critical condition.

Security forces also captured two extremists and recovered some arms and ammunition during overnight operations across the valley.
