NDA trails in 2 out of 3 Bihar LS seatsReversing the trend in last month's Lok Sabha election, a candidate of the opposition Communist Party of India (Marxist), an independent and the Janata Dal (United) were maintaining a lead in three of the four seats for which preliminary trends were available till 2300 IST tonight. The election for four Lok Sabha seats in the state was held on October 28 after they were postponed earlier because of severe floods. According to the trends, former Lok Sabha member and independent candidate Rajesh Ranjan 'Pappu' Yadav had established a lead of over 48,000 votes in Purnea over his nearest Bharatiya Janata Party rival Jai Krishna Mandal, a member of the last Lok Sabha. Yadav is currently in jail. CPI-M candidate Subodh Roy was maintaining a lead of over 9,500 votes over his nearest BJP rival Prabhas Chandra Tiwari in Bhagalpur. In Khagaria, Renu Kumari, nominee of the JD-U, a constituent of the ruling National Democratic Alliance, was maintaining a slender lead of about 2,000 votes after the first round of counting. No trend was available from Rajmahal (reserved) constituency. In the three phases of the Lok Sabha election in the state, the NDA had bagged 40 out of the 50 seats which went to the polls. UNI |
