E-Mail this report to a friend

In view of the situation in Kargil, vigil has been stepped up all along the border in the Jammu region to check any infiltration bid from across the border.

Security forces are being kept on high-alert at all sensitive points from where infiltration could take place in the region.

Kuldeep Khuda, inspector general of police, Jammu range, said this morning that ''the security forces have taken appropriate measures in the region, particularly in Rajouri and Poonch districts, to check any infiltration bid''. Stating that the situation in the region was under control, he said the security forces were maintaining close vigil in the region and also coordinating among themselves.

According to Border Security Force sources, the whole border region has been sealed and strict vigil is being maintained. ''We are fully prepared to give a befitting reply to any infiltration bid from across the border,'' they added.
