'Inefficiency has been the hallmark of IA for all the time it has existed'

Wed, 12 May 1999 12:49:46 +0800 Just read the report on the Rajiv murder case regarding the sentence awarded to those involved in the murder. I would like to give my views on this. 1. Death sentence awarded to the four accused is just. Regarding Nalini's case, her child could be brought up in an orphanage. If Nalini is set free, she might bring up her son in such a way that he too will become another anti-social element in the society. So this should be a lesson to other anti-social elements in the society. I am of the idea that anti social elements like Nalini should be hanged to death. 2. Regarding the setting free of 19 people in this case, I would say it was not wise to do this. As the report says though people were involved directly or indirectly or were active members or passive members, they should be punished. They are accused before the law. A severe punishment need not be meted out to them but they should serve there term in jail for a minimum of six months. This will definitely sound as a warning to them and could also help in preventing mishaps like this. Thanks and Regards, SS

Tue, 11 May 1999 16:04:12 -0700 Dr Bhagat has not told us anything that we do not know, he should have pointed out that most of the politicians of today are extremely corrupt, they get away with it, and their children see that being born in that household makes them immune to the laws of the society. The police, right from the top most IPS officer is a 'chamcha' for the politically powerful, the police is also the 'whipping boy' for the politicians, the police have no interest in investigating a crime committed by the politicians. They are happy stifling the investigation so that they can retire rich and also enjoy the flow of corruption. Bina Ramani is a diva because of a bunch of sex starved politicians who got what they wanted, when they wanted and how they wanted. Even an IPS cadre officer was there enjoying the services. The police were there in seven minutes, how did so much evidence get destroyed by them? Mr Singh who is the commissioner of Police in Delhi is a close fried of Bina Ramani, he has helped her in the past by removing a police inspector who was doing his job honestly. India's worst enemies are the police and the law.

Tue, 11 May 1999 07:41:02 -0700 Are you guys getting paid by the union to be their official mouthpiece? The least you could do is to give the counter arguments to IA union's views. These IA guys are scumbags, the government has no business to be in the business. Yeah, go ask your backer Microsoft to be run by the US government too. Cynical commies!!

Tue, 11 May 1999 22:45:54 PDT Thank you for providing a very nice report on the IA privatisation plan. It is a pity that the unions are opposing it as they do not seem to realise that we the public know that all they are fighting is for the right to laziness, inefficiency, etc that have been the hallmark of IA for all the time it has existed. There will be no sympathy for this band of economic dacoits! Rakesh Krishnan

Mon, 10 May 1999 11:27:57 -0400 It's good to read this. I am not a mother or a father, but the other day when my nephew (born in the USA!) asked me what I was giving to my mother on "Mother's day," I said nothing. He was amazed and asked me, why? I said, in India every day is mother's day. We love and respect them each day of the year, and don't want to make a farce of it, by according only one special day in the year. I think he couldn't understand, but my mother did and was happy. I did not do anything special for her just on that day! It's amazing how materialistic the western culture has come to be. Everything is business here! The sad part is that back home in India, people are also beginning to fall into the traps of such things, thanks to "globalisation!" Rohit Kaila

Mon, 10 May 1999 07:19:39 +0000 Dear friend, My brother from Japan sent me the URL for the article on Protima and I found it deeply touching. Thank you for bringing the meaning and multiple layers of her personality through your story. Prasad Kaipa

But I am not sure about what is going to be your data transfer rate through cable and the stability of connection. There are chances of piracy and leak of information and really this will put a lot of trouble. Anyway it's a great step towards the Internet revolution in India from the Zee network. I really wish you all the best. Subhash Kumar

Mon, 10 May 1999 11:35:35 -0400 Your commentator wrote: "Still, a temporary glitch in computer systems should be no big deal, considering that life survived for eons with nary a computer." Oh really? Tell me, when was the last time the commentator: - cultivated his own vegetables? - canned them? - raised his own livestock? - butchered them? - drew water from a well, by hand? If Y2K affects even just 2-5% of computer systems, it is going to be a huge deal. Wake up! If we are about to be floored by a stupid glitch in some piece of plastic and metal that mankind has lived without for ages, it doesn't say much for the progress we have made. Indeed, it does not.

Date: Mon, 26 Apr 1999 15:06:52 +0530 Cybercafes are useful while we are travelling (as I access the Internet from my office and am not a regular visitor to the cafe). It helps to be in touch with your friends and also update yourself. Sajitha

Tue, 04 May 1999 22:16:03 -1000 Sarfarosh is by far one of the best Hindi movies I have seen since Haqeeqat. I have seen it thrice already in Toronto and I will purchase its CD, audio cassette and video. Congrats to John Matthew and Aamir Khan for taking this step and making this truth-telling movie. By the way, what do you mean when you "in some moments the approach should have been different" Suparn Varma? Don't try diplomacy please, be clear what moments you are talking about. We aren't stupid people here.

Tue, 04 May 1999 18:26:54 PDT Your review was awesome. Sarfarosh should be immediately made tax free. Three cheers to Aamir and Mr John for such a gutsy effort. Shah Rukh, beat that. Every Indian deserves to see this movie.

Sat, 01 May 1999 23:10:24 +0530 It was really nice reading the review of Sarfarosh. It seems we are going to have a real good movie to watch after quite some time. Aamir Khan is indeed a wonderful and a versatile actor. Songs of the film are melodious. Full marks to Jatin-Lalit. Sameer Gokhale
