Rabri grants appointment to CBI

E-Mail this report to a friend

May 20 is the day.

Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi has finally granted the Central Bureau of Investigation time to interrogate her about her husband and Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Laloo Prasad Yadav's alleged acquisition of disproportionate assets worth over Rs 4.25 million.

Sources said the chief minister would meet the sleuths at her official residence early morning. Senior officials, including CBI Joint Director (East) U N Biswas, are expected at the interrogation.

The agency had twice asked the chief minister to give time to quiz her before May 14 so that they could submit the report before May 21, the day the Patna high court supervising the probe had asked it to report.

Earlier, the state government had informed the CBI that the chief minister would be available only in June.

Rabri Devi was drawn into the case after Yadav said during interrogation that he had taken a loan from his wife who runs a dairy farm.

Sleuths had filed a first information report on August 19, 1998, and carried out searches at the chief minister's residence within three days. They also raided the houses of the chief minister's three brothers.

Incidentally, the CBI has rejected Rabri Devi's plea not to record on video her cross-examination on her source of income and expenditure.
