Narrow escape for J & K DIG as militants attack police convoy

At least eight police personnel were injured while Deputy Inspector General of Police (Rajouri-Poonch range) K Rajendra and Senior Superintendent of Police (operations) J P Singh had a narrow escape when militants attacked them at Shindra village in Surrankote area of Poonch district last evening.

An official spokesman said today that the DIG, SSP and many other police and army officers had gone to attend the cremation of a police constable who was killed in an encounter with militants at Lassan village in Surankote at the weekend.

The vehicles escorting the DIG and SSP were attacked on the main road linking Sindhra-Poonch road. The injured police personnel were immediately hospitalised where their condition is said to be stable, he said.
