Heat wave toll crosses 200The toll in the current heat wave sweeping across the country has crossed the 200 mark, with 14 more deaths reported from Uttar Pradesh and Orissa in the past 24 hours. In Uttar Pradesh, where UP toll has gone up to 51, the mercury in most cities in the plains was around 45 degrees Celsius. The state capital Lucknow remained partly cloudy and the maximum temperature fell to 36.8 degrees Celsius. The weatherman has predicted that the heat wave condition might persist in interior Orissa, while thunder squalls would occur over parts of northern Orissa in the next 24 hours. The Orissa toll has touched 60. Despite rain lashing many parts of Andhra Pradesh, day temperatures continue to remain on the higher side, and Hanamkonda, at 44 degrees, remained the hottest place in the state. Vijayawada received six centimetres of rain. Delhi saw the mercury dipping to 39.8 degrees, as western disturbances and the formation of tall clouds continued to cool the atmosphere. Delhi also received mild showers on Saturday and Sunday. In Bihar, thunder showers helped bring the mercury down sharply. Temperatures fell by nearly 10 degrees at some places, leaving parts of the state relatively cool. Strong winds with speeds of over 80 kilometre per hour lashed central Bihar on Sunday, snapping power lines temporarily. UNI
