Renuka Choudhary joins CongressProminent Telugu Desam Party leader and former Union minister Renuka Choudhary today joined the Congress. She said the decision was taken after a year's introspection. Choudhary told reporters at the All-India Congress Committee headquarters that the TDP has changed its colour from yellow to saffron and the entire family of its founder, the late N T Rama Rao, had left the party. Choudhary said she had been trying to convince the TDP to change its anti-minority, pro-communal stance for quite some time, but could not succeed. It was high time for all secular and like-minded parties to strengthen the Congress, she said. She said the TDP had announced that it would keep equidistant from the BJP and the Congress, but ultimately landed up in the lap of the communal forces. The TDP, which fought elections under the label of the United Front, ditched the UF also, she said. Replying to a question, she said she had not sought any post or position in the Congress. Earlier, Congress general secretary R K Dhawan and Congress spokesperson Ajit Jogi welcomed Choudhary. AICC secretary Anil Shastri and Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Y S Rajasekhara Reddy were also present at the press conference. UNI |
