Jagir Kaur to clean up SGPC's act with computers

E-Mail this report to a friend

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Jagir Kaur today said all major gurdwaras, educational institutions and hospitals controlled by the organisation would be computerised to bring transparency in their functioning.

Without naming her predecessor Gurcharan Singh Tohra, Jagir Kaur said institutions run and controlled by the SGPC had been functioning without any laid norms.

She pleaded for baptism of Sikhs so that they could be saved from the evils of alcohol and drugs.

She also thanked the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government for recognising the Takht Damdama Sahib as the fifth takht of the Sikhs.

She told reporters in Chandigarh that the previous SGPC had not seriously pursued the matter to include the Takht Damdama Sahib in the Sikh Gurdwara Act, 1925.

Now, with the Centre's notification, the jathedar of Damdama Sahib has become a legal member of the SGPC, but without the right to vote.

Takht Damdama Sahib was established by the tenth guru, Gobind Singh, and re-established in 1963 with the late Sant Harchand Singh Longowal as its first jathedar.
