Sasikala, kin 'set up' 6 firms in a day in 1994

Sasikala Natarajan, aide of former Tamil Nadu chief minister and All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief J Jayalalitha, and two of her relatives registered six partnership firms in a day, according to a witness who deposed before Special Judge (1) S Sambandam trying the Rs666.5 million disproportionate assets case against Jayalalitha and three others.

The witness, D Thangavelu, then district registrar of Saidapet, said the six firms, in which Sasikala and her relatives V N Sudhakaran and J Elavarasi were partners, were registered on January 25, 1994.

The firms were: J S Housing Development, J J Leasing and Manufactures, Green Farm Houses, J Farm Houses, Jay Real Estates and Jaya Contractors and Builders.

He also told the court that on a telephonic request from Jayalalitha to Ayyar, the then additional inspector general, registration, that two other firms could be registered and the preliminary forms would be submitted later, Metal King and Marble Marvels were registered on November 19, 1993, and July 27, 1994.

After examining eight witnesses, the judge posted further hearing in the case to May 10 and ordered issuance of summons to nine more witnesses for examination on that day.

Besides Jayalalitha, the other accused in the case are Sasikala, Sudhakaran and Elavarasi.
