E-Mail this report to a friend

A police sub-inspector and two militants were killed in Kashmir valley on Sunday evening.

Sources said unidentified militants strangled the officer to death at Bund, near Srinagar.

A defence ministry spokesman said troops killed two militants during a search operation at Putushah in Bandipore, north Kashmir, on Sunday night. Two AK rifles were recovered from them. Searches were still continuing when reports last came in, he added.

Security forces averted a major tragedy on Monday morning, when they defused a powerful improvised explosive device planted by militants at Ganderbal.
