Vajpayee failed to protect Hindutva, feels VHP

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Atal Bihari Vajpayee government has "done little to protect Hindutva," Vishwa Hindu Parishad senior vice president Giriraj Kishore said Friday.

Briefing the press on the deliberations of the VHP governing council, which began its two-day sitting in Bangalore on Thursday, he said the Hindus "were blamed by the head of the government" for many of the recent attacks on Christians.

Kishore continued that the government, being a coalition one, faced many difficulties and had to implement the national agenda -- that might be the reason why the government was unable to protect Hindutva.

Reiterating that neither the VHP nor its other frontal organisations such as the Bajrang Dal were involved in the attack on Christians, he said "a deliberate international attempt is being made to malign the BJP-led government."

He termed as false the allegation of the United States that the Indian government had not taken proper steps to protect Christians in the country. The Bill Clinton administration was supporting insurgent activities in India, he charged.
