E-Mail this report to a friend

Human Resource Development Minister Murli Manohar Joshi has inaugurated the 'Year of Sanskrit' celebrations and called for making Sanskrit compatible with computers.

Any language incompatible with computers will find it difficult to survive, Dr Joshi remarked.

He said the country had the wealth of Sanskrit at its command and the people had to be made aware of the strength of this language.

Sanskrit academies would be set up during the course of the year in states where they do not exist, an official release said.

Efforts would be made to prepare and publish children's literature in Sanskrit. Sanskrit conversation camps and seminars would be held in schools and colleges during the year.
