Advani confesses his ignorance about facets of Z security

E-Mail this report to a friend

Nearly Rs 200,000 is spent every month for Z class security cover to one person in Delhi, the Rajya Sabha was informed Wednesday.

Home Minister L K Advani confirmed in a written reply that a request had been received from Suhaib Ilyasi, who directs and presents the weekly Zee television programme, 'India's most wanted', requesting the government for Z cover. He said that security commensurate with the threat perception to Ilyasi had already been provided. This is reviewed from time to time and is a continuing process, he added.

Security is provided on the basis of the assessment of security agencies, the minister said, adding that 'public order' and 'police' are state subjects and the responsibility of agencies of the state or union territory concerned. Therefore, the government did not have information about the number of persons under Z category all over the country.

Giving details, the minister said the approximate expenditure incurred in such cases in Delhi is about Rs 1,98,000 per month.
