Rabri government wins trust vote

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Rabri Devi government in Bihar won the vote of confidence in the state assembly today.

The government got 172 votes in its favour and 85 against.

Replying to the debate, state parliamentary affairs minister Ramchandra Purve said the Centre had misused Article 356 of the Constitution by dismissing a democratically elected government.

Reiterating his government's commitment to protect the lives of the poor, dalits, minorities and oppressed sections, he warned that no extremist groups, be it the Ranvir Sena or any other leftist organisation, would be tolerated.

The RJD leader alleged that the RSS and former governor Sunder Singh Bhandari were behind the imposition of President's rule in the state.

Criticising the Congress, leader of the opposition Sushil Kumar Modi said it had stabbed the people of the state on the back.

RJD members lodged a strong protest when Modi said the RJD, particularly its chief Laloo Prasad Yadav, was involved in several scams and had even been sent to jail twice.
