Kashmir issue can't be solved without Kashmiris, says Geelani

Bilateral talks between India and Pakistan on the Kashmir issue will yield no results until representatives from Kashmir are allowed to take part in it, said All Party Kashmir Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani in Jammu Saturday.

Geelani reiterated the APKHC stand that any solution must be in accordance with the United Nations resolutions.

"We want a peaceful solution to the issue but the government is trying to suppress our voice, which is undemocratic,'' he said, "The Kashmir issue does not involve only a piece of land but the fate of 13 million people.''

''A state of uncertainty has been prevailing as no sincere efforts have been made by the United Nations and governments of India and Pakistan to find a solution," he added.

Asked who would represent the Kashmiris in the talks, Geelani said an election should be held under the supervision of the United Nations for representatives.

He appealed to the Kashmiri migrants to return to the valley saying, ''They are our brethern and part of the valley. We welcome them back in the valley.''
