US Christians concerned about Indian brethren

E-Mail this report to a friend

The National Association of Christians in the United States has voiced concern about the recent incidents of violence against Christians in India.

A memorandum was presented to Indian embassy officials by 100-odd representatives of the NAC.

Deputy Chief of Mission T P Sreenivasan, in the absence of Ambassador Naresh Chandra, received it on Friday.

Sreenivasan assured the delegation that the Government of India has done everything possible to punish the guilty and prevent the recurrence of such incidents. No fresh incidents have taken place since the end of January, and communal harmony is being restored in the affected areas, he added.

According to an embassy press release, the representatives of the Christian group expressed appreciation at the assurances and for the cordiality with which they were received.

As a mark of their solidarity with the people and the Government of India, they joined the embassy officials in singing the Indian national anthem.
