ASSEMBLY POLL '98
|
Governor Bhandari transferred to GujaratIn a bid to avoid embarrassment for the governor following the Rashtriya Janata Dal's threat to expose his role in the dismissal of the Rabri Devi government, the Centre tonight transferred Sunder Singh Bhandari to Gujarat. A Rashtrapati Bhavan communique said Chief Justice Brij Mohan Lal of the Patna high court would be the acting governor of Bihar. Bhandari's transfer comes in the wake of the threat by RJD president Laloo Prasad Yadav to incorporate in the governor's address to the joint session of the state legislature details of the nexus between the Ranvir Sena, a private army of landlords in Bihar, and the Sangh Parivar. Bhandari himself is a senior member of the Parivar and was a vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Party before he was made governor of Bihar. Yadav said the Ranvir Sena had engineered the killing of dalits in Narayanpur so that Rabri Devi's government could be dismissed. UNI |
