Senior IAS officer dead

Dr V Rajagopalan, a senior Indian Administrative Service officer of the Kerala cadre, died of cardiac arrest in Thiruvananthapuram Friday.

He was 47, and is survived by wife and two sons.

Dr Rajagopalan, secretary, labour and rehabilitation and tourism, collapsed in his chamber in the state secretariat when he was about to go for lunch. He was rushed to the general hospital, where he was declared dead at 1315 hours.

Dr Rajagopalan belonged to the 1980 batch. He began his career as a sub collector of Fort Cochin. He has held several important positions, including that of the chairman of the Kerala State Electricity Board.

The cremation will take place at the Thycaud electric crematorium Saturday.
