Union Home Minister L K Advani today said that the progress and development of the country mainly depended on the internal security scenario, which had undergone a sea-change during the last one year.

Addressing Central Industrial Security Force officials, jawans and their family members on the 30th raising day parade at the CISF's Indirapuram complex, on the outskirts of Delhi, Advani said a lot of concern was being expressed on the internal security problems of the country during the last one decade on account of terrorism and anti-social activities.

However, he said of late the situation has changed and there has been an improvement in internal security and general law and order situation in the extremist-affected Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and north-east region.

A vigil on the international border alone was not enough for national security, but an all-time peaceful atmosphere at the border, along with a crime-free industrial environment, were the ingredients necessary for the progress of a nation.

The home minister praised the role of the 95,000-strong CISF for achieving this goal since its inception in 1983 by keeping vigil as a alert sentinel against sabotage, terrorist attacks and other anti-social activities through specially trained and groomed personnel.
