Pawar hints at new-look leadership for Maharashtra Congress
Senior Congressman Sharad Pawar, leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, today hinted at the possibility of a new crop of young, educated politicians taking over the party's reins in Maharashtra.
The changes in the state party will become evident in a year, Pawar told the audience at the launch of the web site of the Pune chapter of the Computer Society of India.
Earlier, CSI, Pune chapter chairman Deepak Shikarpur, while highlighting the salient features of the web site, said the information technology industry in the state would prosper if the political leadership was young and educated and therefore able to comprehend its needs.
Taking the cue, Pawar said he was personally involved in grooming a new crop of legislators who are young and educated to take up the party's reins in the state.
There are a dozen or so such legislators, he said, but refrained from identifying them.
Pawar said he had decided to spend much of his time in promoting the IT industry in Maharashtra, apart from his political commitments.
One of the projects that he is keen on implementing is to ensure Internet facilities in each and every school in the state.
He said that it would be his endeavour to involve the co-operative sector -- the sugar, milk and banking co-operatives -- to implement this scheme.
