E-Mail this report to a friend

A foreign mercenary and a fireman were killed while security forces captured four terrorists in the Kashmir valley in the last 24 hours.

An official spokesman said unidentified gunmen opened fire on two firemen, Sartaj Ahmad Lone and Assad Ullah, at Maisuma near Srinagar this afternoon. Both men were rushed to hospital in a critical condition where Lone died.

The spokesman said terrorists shot at and wounded a man, Tariq Guroo, at Eidgah in downtown Srinagar this morning while militants and forces exchanged fire at Kareli last evening.

Security forces gunned down a foreign terrorist, Mohammad Usman, at Kokernag in the southern Kashmir district of Anantnag last evening during a search operation. One assault rifle, three magazines and 95 rounds were recovered from him.

The spokesman said security forces also captured four terrorists, including a resident of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

They also recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition, including 48 grenades, one grenade-launcher, five remote-control devices, five time devices, and five electric detonators in the valley in overnight operations.
