CPI politician shot dead in Bihar

Rampravesh Mahato, a senior politician of the Communist Party of India, was shot dead by some criminals at Bachauli village in Samastipur district of Bihar last night.

Police said a dozen criminals attacked Mahato's house and shot him dead after dragging him out.

Personal enmity is said to have been the cause.

Sources said eight persons have been named in the first information report.

Meanwhile, a report from Barh, quoting Deputy Superintendent of Police Amzad Ali, said a dreaded criminal wanted in connection with several cases of murder and kidnapping was killed in an encounter with police near Bajiyana village in Patna district yesterday.

Ali said two country-made rifles, one pistol and several rounds of cartridges were recovered from the man identified as 'Blue' Yadav.
