Options open on Bihar, says Kumaramangalam

The Centre will explore all options on Bihar, Union Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs Rangarajan Kumaramangalam said in Madras today.

He was replying to a question whether the BJP-led government at the Centre was considering revocation of the presidential proclamation on Bihar as the official motion to ratify the proclamation was bound to be defeated in the Rajya Sabha.

Kumaramangalam said one option was to allow the proclamation to lapse for two months after convening of Parliament.

Asked whether the government was considering a second option, the parliamentary affairs minister said: "The government will examine all options."

He said the Congress had openly campaigned in the last Lok Sabha election in Bihar that the Rabri Devi government in the state was associated with criminals and criminality and had no right to stay in power.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi herself had declared that the Rabri Devi government had no moral right to stay in office after the recent massacre of dalits.

The party's about-turn on Bihar was anti-dalit and amounted to committing hara-kiri, he said.
