Parvathi walks out of AP house over workers' woes

E-Mail this report to a friend

Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao-Telugu Desam Party president Lakshmi Parvathi today staged a walkout in the Andhra Pradesh assembly in protest against the government's alleged indifference to the sufferings of the working class in the state.

Making a zero hour mention, she said hundreds of workers were facing the threat of starvation following the closure of the Rajahmundry Spinning Mills, which was started in 1970 to accommodate refugees from Myanmar.

Responding to the mention, Labour minister E Peddireddy said since the issue involved labour, textiles and industry departments, the officials of these departments would discuss and take appropriate action.

Dissatisfied with the minister's reply, Parvathi walked out of the house charging that the government was not taking any steps to solve the problems of the workers.
