Cong will 'thwart' attempts to destabilise Haryana govtHours after the 11-member Bharatiya Janata Party withdrew support to the Bansi Lal government in Haryana, the Congress party issued a statement saying that it would thwart attempts to destabilise the Haryana government. Senior Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee, however, declined to commit whether his party would extend support to the Bansi Lal government. The party, he said, would formulate its stand as and when the situation unfolds. Mukherjee cautioned the state governor against resorting to a head-count saying that the government's strength should be decided on the floor of the state assembly. In the 90-member assembly, the ruling Haryana Vikas Party has a strength of 35 members. It also enjoys the support of majority of the nine independent MLAs. The continuance of the Bansi Lal government now is dependent on the Congress which has 13 MLAs. UNI
