E-Mail this report to a friend

In a major breakthrough, police arrested a self-styled zonal area commander and accountant general of the banned Maoist Communist Centre Sitaram Ravi Das who had masterminded the Senari massacre and other extremist attacks in central Bihar.

Superintendent of police Anil Palta said today that Ravi Das disclosed that the group had planned to attack two other villages in the district to create a fear psychosis in the minds of the public.

Interrogations revealed that the group had collected over Rs 65 million during the last six months through illegal levies imposed on villagers and contractors working under centrally-sponsored schemes, he added.

Ravi Das has confessed to leading the group at Senari village in Jehanabad district where 34 people were massacred, and later pasting posters saying the group was responsible for the incident.

He also revealed said that he had blasted the house of a police officer in Aurangabad and planned the killing of Bihar Military Police jawans in Palamau district.

Palta said several other arrests are on the anvil following specific information received by the police.
