'Sowcar' Janaki joins BJPShireen in Hyderabad Noted actress of yesteryear 'Sowcar' Janaki on Friday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. BJP state president Ch Vidyasagar Rao said her association with the party would be a great asset to it. Speaking to reporters, Janaki said that she was moved by the fall of the BJP government by one vote, leading to the dissolution of the 12th Lok Sabha. She was confident that the BJP alliance would get absolute majority in the ensuing snap polls to the Lok Sabha and that Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee would lead the nation for a full five-year term. Janaki said she had no plans to contest the elections. She said she would campaign for the success of the BJP. "It is the need of the hour that the BJP returns to power again. The country's image has improved ten-fold during Vajpayee's prime ministership," she added. The popular actress had made her debut in the early 1950s with the Telugu film Sowcar. Her performance earned her many laurels. She also starred in Kanyasulkam starring N T Rama Rao, Savithri, Gummadi Venkateswara Rao and others.
