85 killed as bus plunges into river

The death toll in yesterday's bus accident at Devara Belakere in Davangere district of Karnataka has gone up to 85 with the recovery of 57 more bodies earlier today.

The police said 34 of the injured were being treated at various hospitals and the condition of some of them is said to be serious.

The bus, which was proceeding from Honnali to Harihara, plunged into the Devara Belakere dam near Harihara yesterday.

The bus has been lifted from the dam built across a rivulet joining the Tungabhadra river and divers have been pressed into service for the recovery of more bodies.
