Faleiro elected Goa CLP leader

Goa Pradesh Congress committee president and former chief minister Luisinho Faleiro was today elected Goa Congress Legislative Party leader after day-long deliberations among the newly-elected party legislators.

Dr Manmohan Singh, Congress Working Committee member, and Madhavrao Scindia, All India Congress Committee general Secretary, announcing this to reporters at a press conference this evening said, ''The party would stake its claim to form the government immediately''. Faleiro said he would meet the governor tonight.

The two party observers said consensus was arrived at after one-to-one meetings with MLAs and the subsequent resolution passed at the CLP meeting authorising the party president Sonia Gandhi to decide the leader. Singh said as per the directive of party president Sonia Gandhi, he and Scindia have decided in favour of Faleiro.
