President backs Kargil operation, flays Pak

E-Mail this report to a friend

President K R Narayanan, the supreme commander of the armed forces, today said India has no alternative but to 'defend and regain' the strategic mountain heights near the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan's claim that the LoC was 'vague and unmarked' is an attempt to deceive the world, he said while inaugurating the centenary celebrations of Field Marshal K M Cariappa in New Delhi.

It is for the first time since the flare-up started near the LoC that the President has spoken on the issue.
