LTTE denies plot against Sonia

E-Mail this report to a friend

P Mohan Das in Colombo

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam has denied reports that it had conspired to assassinate Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

''We are shocked and deeply distressed to learn that Indian newspapers have, in an irresponsible manner, highlighted this malicious and baseless story with a sinister motive to malign the Tamil freedom movement,'' a statement from the LTTE headquarters in London claimed.

''The LTTE wishes to deny categorically such reports emanating from sections of the Indian media,'' it added.

''The LTTE wishes to state emphatically that it has no intention to interfere in the internal politics of India nor will it act in any way that is prejudicial to the Indian national interest,'' the LTTE said.
