Monsoon toll crosses 300 markThe death toll in rain-related incidents across the country has crossed the 300 mark as the southwest monsoon lashed eastern India yesterday, killing 14 people. Water level rose alarmingly in several rivers in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. In Kerala, the death of a boy due to electrocution at Chittor in Palakkad district took the toll in the state to 78. Bihar reported six deaths during the past 24 hours. Three casualties were reported from Madhubani district, while a ferry accident in Samastipur claimed an equal number of lives. Seven others were reported missing in the mishap, raising fears of more deaths. The toll in Bihar has reached 141. Seven people have died in Uttar Pradesh, increasing the casualty figure in the country to 310.
