Ahmedabad quiet but tense

E-Mail this report to a friend

Uneasy calm continued to prevail in the walled city areas of Ahmedabad as no untoward incident was reported in any part of the city since last night. The two most sensitive areas, falling under the Shahpur and Karanj police stations, remained under indefinite curfew imposed yesterday evening.

City Police Commissioner P C Pandey said with the death of two more persons last night the toll in the week-long communal violence rose to seven.

He said that of the two dead, one person was stabbed to death when a frenzied mob chased a small group of people with sharp weapons in Shahalam in the Maninagar area. The other person was killed in stone-throwing in the Three Gate area under the Karanj police station.
